Hi David,

Thanks for your comment!
Nice to see you here.

This particular case study is done now. You may want to read these follow-up posts:

https://www.smartlanguagelearner.com/learn-german-easily-report-1/

https://www.smartlanguagelearner.com/learn-german-easily-review/

I think it's a nice product. The stories are entertaining with typical German humor. But you have to have more materials than just this course to be able to speak German. So not only is there nothing wrong with using other stuff, it's essential even.

I couldn't finish the course in the case study. There wasn't enough time to do so. I could go through the units at a faster pace than most because my native language is Dutch and it's somewhat similar to German. But I can see how an English native speaker has to stay with a unit for a long time.

There are exact instructions on how to use the course in a PDF file that comes with the package.

If you need more help or information, please don't hesitate to ask.

Hi this is a great idea. I have been living in Germany for 2 years and I speak very very poor German just enough of the basics to get by. My day job is in English, although I have German colleagues and I cannot hold a conversation with them. I have tried Assimil but I always stopped some of the way through. I have had my eye on this course for a while and I think I will join you. If you are testing the course I don't think there is anything wrong with using some supplementary materials like story books or a speaking partner or etc.

Do you have any tips or techniques before we begin ?

In reply to <a href="https://www.smartlanguagelearner.com/learn-german-easily-case-study/#comment-7680">Anthony Metivier</a>.

Hi Anthony,

Yes, that would be a great idea if my main goal was to learn German. I've always thought that most language courses are too general.

However, the most important goal for this case study is to test the product. In order to do that, I have to work with it in isolation. As I say in the article, I would never try to learn a language by using just one course, tool or method but to really get an idea of the strength of this course I have to do just that.

Thanks for your comment!

Look forward to following this!

Do you have in mind what you would like to be able to talk about at the end? I think sometimes we think very vaguely about what it means to speak and a lot of people are really challenged by understanding grammar but not getting much further than where they come from or some basic facts about the weather.

In other words, you might want to pick 2-3 themes in advance and have a vocabulary target that will enable you to do so. If you include some vocab words from the theme of language learning, then you'll be on your way to translating your own articles. ;)

Great, good to hear that!

Yes, I know that all too well. Sometimes we want to do 100 things at the same time. Unfortunately, we have to take them on one by one. That's why I limit myself to four to five 40 minute sessions a week.
